Abstrakt:

This paper studies the party alignment bias in Poland. Relying on quasi-experimental regression discontinuity design and 2006-2019 data for over 2400 municipalities, we revisit the question of whether the distribution of grants and transfers from the central to the local governments is affected by political alignment of the local authorities with the central government. We report robust evidence that the size of party alignment bias has increased after 2016, under the rules of populist, authoritarian government.
