Research requirements

THE BASIC ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE UNIVERSITY TEACHER:
a) to carry out scientific research and development work in areas pursued by the University and related to one's own scientific development, and to publish the results;
(b) to train research staff - supervision of doctoral candidates;
(c) to organise and participate in scientific conferences and symposia;
d) to participate actively in the academic life of the University and cooperate with representatives of other scientific centres both nationally and abroad.
Detailed guidelines concerning the fulfilment of research responsibilities are specified in the Work Regulations of the University of Warsaw

THE REQUIREMENT TO SUBMIT DECLARATIONS CONCERNING THE 'N' NUMBER AND DISCIPLINE
Employees employed in research and teaching positions are required to submit a declaration concerning one's inclusion in the N number of staff, and a declaration of one's chosen field and discipline. The relevant Act does not exclude the possibility of an employee submitting a declaration while being employed in positions other than research and teaching (i.e., in teaching or administrative positions), if such an employee actually conducts research activities. Academic staff in the teaching staff group who have submitted declarations of inclusion in the N number and of the represented scientific discipline shall be subject to periodic evaluations of their performance in research, in accordance with the rules applicable to academic staff in the research and teaching staff group.
Declarations regarding the N number and discipline
Declaration to consent to be included in the number of researchers (N)
Declaration on the field and discipline
Declaration of withdrawal of consent to be added to the number of employees engaged in scientific activities

N Number
The 'N number' is the average number of employees who are engaged in research activities during a given evaluation period. It is ascertained relative to full-time work; the calculation includes the share of employees' working time which is associated with conducting research activities in a given discipline, as of 31 December of each year included in the evaluation period. The N number is determined on the basis of information in the POL-on system, up to two decimal places (§7.1. of the Regulations).
The submission of declarations
The declarations must be signed by the Head of the Organisational Unit (the Dean). Original documents must be submitted to the Dean's Office. The documents are then forwarded to the UW Office of Research Administration, which enters the information into the system.

THE REQUIREMENT TO HAVE AN ORCID IDENTIFIER
Each researcher is obliged to have an ORCID number and to link that account to PBN. From the PBN system, the ORCID number will be sent to the POL-on system. The ORCID number is also necessary when entering the bibliographical information of your publications into the PBN system.
The requirement that persons conducting research activities have an ORCID identifier stems from the Constitution for Science.

THE OBLIGATION TO REGISTER WITH SCIENTIFIC INDEXING SERVICES
Academic teachers are also required to register outside the ORCID service with the following indexing services for scientific papers, and indicate UW/FES as their affiliation: RePEc, Google Scholar, and Publons. In case of issues with registration, please contact Ms Magdalena Lewandowska.
