RePEc IDEAS na beta www.pngThe Faculty is among the top 3% of the best economic centres in Europe

For many years, the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw has been the best academic centre in the field of economics in Poland, and a leading centre in Europe. According to statistics published in October 2023 by the RePEc database, which classifies research institutions in the field of economics from around the world:

  • the Faculty confirmed its number-one position in the ranking of the best institutions in Poland, while also being in the top 3% of the best institutions in Europe;
  • the best economist in Poland is a researcher at the Faculty - Professor Dr. Dr. h. c. Oded Stark - who is also among the top 1% of the economists in the world;
  • 20% of the best Polish economists (150 people) are researchers from the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw.

In the nationwide ranking of universities and fields of study by the magazine "Perspektywy", the Faculty's studies were evaluated in the group of economic fields and held leading positions on a national scale.

The field of study "Economics" at the Faculty was recognised as the best in Poland, owing to its perfect score of 100 points, in the category of "International Accreditations" and "Scientific Publications", and a slightly lower score in the rankings of "Quality of admissions to studies" (97.4 points) and "Economic prospects of graduates" (97.5 points).

The "Finance and Accounting" programme at the Faculty of Economic Sciences UW, with a score of 96.8, ranked second in the country and significantly improved their score relative to the previous year's ranking, in which it had obtained 82.7 points. The FES UW programme received the highest possible score of 100 points, in "Scientific category indicator" and "Publications". In the Eduniversal Best Masters 2021 ranking, five master's programmes from the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw were among the top institutions in the ranking.

  • "Quantitative Finance" – 12th place in the world, in the category of "Financial Markets"

The Best Masters ranking is a juxtaposition of master's and MBA studies. This year's survey evaluated more than 22,000 programmes, offered by nearly 4,000 universities from 154 countries, of which 5,416 were included in the ranking of the best courses.

Rzeczpospolita logo.pngThe best economics programme in Poland - the ranking by "Rzeczpospolita"

The University of Warsaw's economics programme won the ranking of economic studies conducted by non-economic universities. (2019) The ranking of universities and economic studies by "Rzeczpospolita", whose substantive partner is the Information Processing Centre (OPE) - the National Research Institute (PIB), is based on data from the nationwide Polish Graduate Tracking System (ELA) and compilations from the POL-on system, i.e., the Integrated System of Information on Science and Higher Education (ZSIoSWN).

The University of Warsaw is the decisive leader in terms of scientific potential. The University's economic studies were also highly rated in the other three categories: the careers of graduates, the quality of teaching, and the internationalisation of departments.

In the most highly-scored category, the careers of graduates, which comprises 40 percent of the final result in the ranking, the University of Warsaw was ranked 1st out of the 23 universities evaluated, in the subcategory of "average earnings of graduates in the first year after graduation" (4,539.30 PLN), and "highest average earnings in relation to the average salary in their poviats of residence".

In the category of ‘Internationalisation’, the authors of the ranking emphasised the high internationalisation of the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the University of Warsaw, which is expressed, for instance, by the number of foreign students in the student body.

Studia z przyszłością logo.pngStudies with a Future - 2021

As part of the 6th edition of the National Competition "Studies with the Future", certificates were awarded to three study programmes from FES UW:

  • English-language programmes in “Data Science and Business Analytics” and “Quantitative Finance”;
  • a programme run in Polish – "Informatics and Econometrics".

In addition to accreditation certificates, the "Computer Science and Econometrics" programme received the Extraordinary Certificate of "Leader in Quality of Education", which is awarded to courses or specialties that obtained the highest number of points, awarded by the members of the expert committee evaluating applications in the 6th edition of the Programme.

The competition "Studies with the Future", co-organised by the Foundation for the Development of Education and Higher Education (FREiSW) and the Creative Agency of PRC, identifies and awards selected programmes and fields of study conducted in Polish universities, which are innovative and adapted to the needs of the labour market, and which adopt modern teaching approaches.

The Faculty was the only one in Poland to receive three prestigious Certificates of Excellence in Education from the Polish Accreditation Commission (PAK). At the time of the evaluation, all programmes run by our Department were included in the compilation.

Comprehensive accreditation "Excellent programme – excellence in education" was received by the following programmes:

"Economics" - first-cycle and second-cycle studies, including the following specialties at the time of the assessment:

  • International economics
  • Business economics
  • International Economics 
  • and two others, implemented at the bachelor's level, along with other faculties at the University of Warsaw: Interdisciplinary Economic-Mathematical Studies (MSEMAT) with the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics UW; Interdisciplinary Economics-Management Studies (MSEMEN) with the Faculty of Management UW 

"Informatics and econometrics" - first-cycle and second-cycle studies, including the English-language second-cycle studies in Data Science.

"Finance, investment and accounting" – first-cycle and second-cycle studies were awarded in the    category of "Open to the world – excellence in international cooperation".

As part of the studies, the following were included:

  • Public finance and taxes, in the first-cycle and second cycle programmes
  • Quantitative Finance, in English - a second-cycle programme,
  • Finance and International Investment, in first-cycle studies, conducted in English.
