Dr. Honorata Bogusz awarded a Humboldt Research Fellowship

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Honorata Bogusz, a researcher affiliated with LabFam Research Center at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw, has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The fellowship will support her research project “Far-right popularity, gender, and fertility – a comparative analysis of Germany and Poland,” which examines the links between far-right political success, gender conflict, and fertility patterns in Germany and Poland. Dr Bogusz’s project asks whether electoral events in which far-right parties achieve significant political success are accompanied by changes in fertility patterns and examines the extent to which these relationships are shaped by gender conflict. By comparing Germany and Poland, the research will provide new evidence on how political and social developments may interact with individual and household decisions concerning family formation and childbearing.

The project lies at the intersection of family economics, gender economics, demography, and political economy and is closely related to LabFam’s broader research agenda on the economic, institutional, and social determinants of family and fertility decisions.

The Humboldt Research Fellowship supports highly qualified researchers from around the world in conducting their own research projects in Germany in cooperation with a host institution and in developing long-term international academic collaboration.

As part of the fellowship, Dr Honorata Bogusz will spend the coming semester and return again next summer to DIW Berlin – German Institute for Economic Research. She will join the Gender Economics Research Group, headed by Prof. Katharina Wrohlich. The group conducts research on gender inequalities in the labour market and on the effects of family, tax, and social policies on women, families, and employment.

The research stays at DIW Berlin will also provide an opportunity to strengthen international academic cooperation and exchange between WNE UW and LabFam, and one of Europe’s leading research environments in gender economics.
