2nd Place at the Prestigious Rotman International Trading Competition 2026 for the University of Warsaw Team
The Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), held annually in Toronto, has long been recognized as one of the most prestigious international trading competitions, attracting university teams from around the world. In this year’s edition, under the supervision of Prof. Robert Ślepaczuk (Head of the Department of Quantitative Finance and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Economic Sciences), the University of Warsaw team secured an impressive second place.
The team spent several months preparing for the competition, focusing on strategy design and testing, market making and risk management. Composed mostly of students from the Faculty of Economic Sciences, the team finished just one point behind the first-place winners.
The University of Warsaw were represented by:
- Jakub Fiłon – Quantitative Finance, master program, 2nd year,
- Quoc Frejter – Computer Sciences and Econometrics, master program, 1st year,
- Paweł Jakubowski – Economics, bachelor program, 3rd year,
- Dominik Stempień – Finance and Accounting, master program, 1st year,
- Jan Wołyniak – Quantitative Finance, master program, 1st year
- and Franciszek Windorbski – from the Faculty of Management, Business finance and accounting, bachelor program, 2nd year.
Analytical and strategic support for the team was also provided by:
- Filip Bronisz – Quantitative Finance, master program, 2nd year
- and Paweł Wiencław - from the Doctoral School of Exact and Natural Sciences at the University of Warsaw.
During the competition, teams participated in realistic market stimulations covering option trading, algorithmic trading, market making, commodities, equities, liquidity issues and complex merges and acquisitions.
First place was claimed by Baruch College (New York), while third place went to the team from Luiss Guido Carli University (Rome). Other participating universities included the University of Toronto, University of Calgary, and Chulalongkorn University.
The University of Warsaw team’s participation and outstanding 2nd-place finish demonstrate their high level of expertise, teamwork, and ability to perform under pressure in demanding conditions.
