Our philosophy

The purpose of the Centre

The main objective of the Centre is to improve and popularise methods and tools of economics for solving environmental problems.

The impact of environmental change on people’s well-being has often been overlooked by analysts and practitioners in the world of economics. Through its activities, the Centre tries to address this gap. We believe that through the development and popularisation of scientific methods, it is possible to shift the focus of public debate from ideological, sentimental, and ambivalent arguments to measurable categories of profits and losses, which allow for decision-making in a rational (and socially effective) manner. In our view, this is particularly important with regard to controversial decisions about environmental goods.

The mission of the Centre

  • Improving and popularising economic methods and tools for solving environmental problems;
  • Supporting public and private institutions in their endeavours to implement and practice the results of our scientific research and expertise in the field of environmental economics;
  • Demonstrating ways to resolve conflicts between different interest groups, in the context of the use of environmental resources that meet the conditions of economic efficiency and social justice;
  • Popularising the use of economic tools for the rational use of natural resources, aimed at maximising social welfare - organising courses and training sessions, and engaging in public debate;
  • Contributing to the environmental education of society through educational activities.

The vision of the Centre

The Warsaw Ecological Economics Centre aims to actively participate in public debate on economic development, including environmental aspects within the country and in the world, as well as the scientific, applied, and educational dimensions of the research, analyses, and evaluations which are being carried out.
