We also encourage you to review the abstract, provided below.
We consider the impact of three regional airports in Poland on the regional economic development at NUTS-4 spatial granularity. To identify the impact of the regional airport establishment, we apply the difference-in-differences method, both in the non-spatial and spatial version. The control group is selected from the remaining Polish NUTS-4 entities so as to maximize ex ante economic similarity. Depending on the specification, the results indicate the average treatment effect of +1-3 p.p. share of employment in services in total employment. The statistical significance of this effect varies with specification and sample choice. No evidence of spatial spillovers is found. One of the investigated airports (in Radom) is materially contributing to the result on the downside, whereas the other airports exhibit a positive effect.
