Warsaw International Economic Meeting (WIEM) 2026

In the final days of June, we had the pleasure of hosting experts from around the world during the 21st edition of our flagship WNE conference. Among the participants were representatives from scientific centers such as Liverpool, Warwick, Boston, Trier, Oslo, Pamplona, Berlin, and Melbourne, as well as Polish research entities: the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, the Polish Academy of Sciences, and, of course, the University of Warsaw.

The academic sessions were devoted to fields of economics such as international trade, labor and education economics, macro- and microeconomics, political economy, and finance. Over 30 inspiring papers were presented throughout the conference.

A keynote lecture titled "The Cultural Roots of the Wealth of Nations" was delivered by Prof. Oded Galor (Brown University) - the founder of Unified Growth Theory, which laid the foundation for research on the interaction between the evolution of human biological and cultural traits and economic development. In his academic work, Prof. Galor also focuses on evolutionary economics and demography, bridging economics with biology, anthropology, cultural studies, and history. He is also the founder and long-standing Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Economic Growth. In 2025, the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń awarded Prof. Galor an honorary doctorate (doctor honoris causa).

We are pleased with another successful edition and extend our sincere thanks to all participants for their presence and engaging discussions. Special thanks go to Dr. hab. Leszek Wincenciak, prof. ucz. (Department of Education and Labor Economics at WNE), for coordinating the event.
