Lecture by Dr Laura Sochas (University of Edinburgh) at the Faculty of Economic Sciences – 30.10

Dr Laura Sochas from the University of Edinburgh will visit the Faculty of Economic Sciences at the invitation of the LabFam research center. On October 30 at 13:30, she will deliver a lecture entitled „Austerity as Reproductive Injustice: Did Local Government Spending Cuts Unequally Impact Births?”. The event will take place in Room A409.

The seminar will focus on the consequences of austerity policies in the United Kingdom, particularly their impact on reproductive decisions across different social groups. The guest speaker will present recent data showing that cuts in public spending have disproportionately affected the poorest households, thereby limiting their chances of having (another) child. The analysis also adopts an intersectional perspective, revealing that women from ethnic minorities were more likely to live in areas most affected by local budget cuts.
