Activities

CEAPS activities have included conducting scientific research, preparing expert opinions commissioned by external institutions, and organising seminars as well as other events for researchers/experts (with particular emphasis on supporting cooperation between representatives of the sciences and practitioners in socio-political and economic spheres).

2010

Preparation of a research report on a development strategy for higher education commissioned by the Foundation of Polish Rectors (FRP)

Coordinator: prof. dr hab. Jerzy Wilkin

The project included a team of employees from FES UW and students from three science societies that operate at the University of Warsaw. The result of the project is a publication - an expert opinion entitled Reforming the higher education system in Poland – economic, financial, and legal conditions (published by The Foundation of Polish Rectors - Fundacja Rektorów Polskich, 2010).

Implementation of the research project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education/NCN entitled Quality of governance and improvement of the efficiency of public fund management: conceptualisation, measurement and institutionalisation of good governance principles in Poland

Project manager: prof. dr hab. Jerzy Wilkin

A team of employees from the University of Warsaw participated; as part of the project, a number of seminars were held with the participation of practitioners, as well as a joint seminar with the Małopolska School of Public Administration (UEK) in Cracow. The result of the project is a monograph entitled Quality of governance in Poland. How should it be studied, monitored, and corrected? J. Wilkin, ed. (WN Scholar, 2013).

Co-organisation of three conferences from the Polish Law & Economics Conference series at the University of Warsaw

Coordinator: dr hab. Katarzyna Metelska-Szaniawska, prof. ucz.

Each conference was attended by over 100 participants, with presenters from various centres in Poland and abroad. The guest lectures were delivered by prominent representatives in the economic analysis of law (prof. S. Voigt from the University of Hamburg, prof. E. Salzberger from the University of Haifa, prof. T. Ulen University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign). The conference also resulted in subsequent editions of the ​​​​​​​ Polish Yearbook of Law & Economics by J. Bełdowski, K. Metelska-Szaniawska and L. Visscher, eds. (published by CH Beck, 2011-2013).

Co-organisation of 30th Annual Meeting of the European Association of Law and Economics (EALE) at the University of Warsaw

Coordinator: dr hab. Katarzyna Metelska-Szaniawska, prof. ucz.

This anniversary edition of the most important scientific conference in the field of economic analysis of law in Europe, organised in September 2013 at the University of Warsaw, was attended by over 200 researchers from 25 countries; there were nearly 150 presentations, two guest lectures, and a discussion panel.
 


2015

Organisation of a seminar entitled "Regulatory Impact Assessment – Current Status and Challenges for the Future" at FES UW

Moderator: dr hab. Łukasz Hardt, prof. ucz.

The seminar was attended by members of the scientific community (represented by employees of our Faculty and those of other universities, e.g., Warsaw School of Economics (SGH), or the SWPS University of Social Sciences and Humanities, as well as the Polish Academy of Science (PAN), as well as practitioners (representatives of the European Commission, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland (KPRM), the Ministry of Justice, the Supreme Audit Office (NIK), the Bureau of Research for the Chancellary of the Sejm, the Digital Affairs Council), and representatives of several non-governmental organisations. As a result, a number of recommendations were developed for the process of assessing the effects of regulations in national and European contexts.
