Abstract:

Recreation is one of the most tangible ways humans experience nature and has long been of interest to economists interested in people’s environmental behaviour. Recreation demand models exploit the behavioural trail left by people to reveal their economic values for these non-market activities. This talk will describe the results of a large-scale recreation study in Canada focusing on the opportunities and challenges in using these models to understand behaviour and estimate welfare measures.
