Funding limits for 2026

Within each of Actions II.2.2 and IV.3.1, the applicant may receive a maximum of two grants in a given calendar year. This limit applies separately to each of the above Actions.

Submitting an application for an additional grant under a given Action is possible only after the previous grant has been fully settled (by submitting the report to the e-mail address indicated in the rules).

In 2026, any grant awarded must be fully settled no later than 30 September 2026.

Publication microgrants (Action I.2.4)

In a given calendar year, the applicant may receive:

  • up to two microgrants to cover Open Access fees (APC),
  • up to two microgrants to cover publication fees in the subscription-based model.

Submitting an application for an additional grant of a given type is possible only after the previous grant has been fully settled (by submitting the report to the e-mail address indicated in the rules).

Implementation and settlement

A prerequisite for the implementation of the task is obtaining the approval of the Head of the Unit.

Settlement must be completed within 30 days from the date on which all expenditures related to the project have been recorded in the SAP financial and accounting system.

Activities financed under Action IV.3.1

  • Active participation in conferences and seminars in Poland and Europe (presentation or participation in a panel).
  • Organisation of conferences with the University of Warsaw as one of the main organisers.
  • Conducting queries in foreign research institutions (archives, libraries, databases).
  • Publication of monographs in publishers listed at Level II of the MNiSW list.
  • Publication of research articles in high-impact journals (according to Scopus or MNiSW – 100, 140, 200 points).
  • Study visits to prestigious foreign research institutions (e.g. for the purpose of initiating cooperation).
  • Conducting preliminary research in preparation for an application for an external grant.
  • Language editing by a native speaker of an article or a chapter in a monograph prior to publication.
  • Visits of foreign guests for the purpose of establishing or strengthening research cooperation.

Action I.2.4 – Supporting publishing activity in the open access model

Funding covers the costs of publishing articles and monographs both in the Open Access model (under Creative Commons licences) and in the subscription-based model, with a limit of two OA applications and two subscription-based applications per person; funding granted under the subscription model excludes the possibility of subsequently applying for OA funding for the same publication.

Support is limited to articles of the type article/research article or review, as well as monographs in publishers listed at Level II of the MNiSW list, published in journals that meet IDUB criteria or hold 100/140/200 MNiSW points, with a correct affiliation "University of Warsaw" and a publication date no later than 30 September 2026.

The application must include the basic publication details (title, ISSN/publisher, DOI where applicable) and a proof of acceptance for publication or an invoice with the correct UW VAT number (NIP: 525-001-12-66).

The maximum level of funding is 35,000 PLN (incl. VAT) for articles and 50,000 PLN (incl. VAT) for monographs (both in OA and in the subscription-based model); costs incurred in 2025 are eligible only for expenditures made in December 2025 under the new call.

Action II.2.2 – Mobility Fund

  • Participation in specialist training courses or summer/winter schools organised by recognised institutions.
  • Participation in academic conferences outside Europe, including the presentation of a paper or participation in a panel.

Action IV.1.3 – “From the Diamond Grant to an ERC grant”

  • Language editing of an ERC grant application by a native speaker – costs of professional proofreading.

For Doctoral Candidates

The call “Microgrants for PhD students” provides funding for publication-related and research activities of doctoral candidates at the University of Warsaw, directly connected with their doctoral dissertation.

What can be funded?

In particular:

  • proofreading of a scholarly text by a native speaker (journal article or book chapter),
  • open access fees for an article or book chapter,
  • archival/library research in Poland or abroad,
  • specialised training courses and seasonal/summer schools,
  • active participation in an international academic conference,
  • a research visit of up to 60 days,
  • conducting research in Poland or as part of a research visit (up to 60 days).

The maximum amount of funding depends on the chosen funding track (category of activity).

Deadlines

  • announcement and start of the call: 10 December 2025,
  • end of the call:
    • 31 March 2026 – for research visits and research activities (including research carried out during a visit),
    • 30 June 2026 – for all other activities,
  • project implementation period: 1 January 2026 – 30 September 2026.

Applications are accepted within these periods or until the available funds are exhausted.

Rules and required signatures

  • the application may concern only activities that are not financed from other sources,
  • each applicant may receive funding under this call no more than twice; the second application may be submitted only after the previous microgrant has been properly settled,
  • the following signatures/endorsements are required:
    • supervisor,
    • director of the doctoral school,
    • dean/head of the unit,
    • bursar’s proxy or person responsible for the unit’s finances.
